PRODUCT OVERVIEW & WORKING PRINCIPLE

Line-integrated scalding before mechanical plucking

The SIMPLOT continuous poultry immersion scalder is designed for the scalding stage between bleeding and mechanical plucking. Birds remain on the overhead shackle conveyor and travel through heated water for a controlled residence time, reducing manual transfer between processing stages.

Air agitation moves the water around the carcass and helps open the feather layer so that heat can reach the feather follicles more evenly. Tank length, conveyor speed, water movement and operating temperature must be coordinated as one process rather than selected as independent values.

The equipment is configured according to poultry species, average live weight, target birds per hour, required skin appearance, heating utilities and the approved factory layout. Final dimensions, installed power, steam demand and control scope are confirmed in the technical proposal.

Planning note: Published capacity and size ranges describe available project configurations and are not guaranteed values for every installation.

01Line EntryBled birds enter the scalder while remaining suspended on the overhead conveyor.
02Controlled ImmersionConveyor speed and the effective scalding path determine residence time in the heated water.
03Water AgitationAir movement circulates water around the carcass and helps separate the feather layer for heat transfer.
04Transfer to PluckingScalded birds leave the tank and move directly to the matched plucking section.

KEY FEATURES

Built around line speed, bird profile and finished-product requirements

The scalder is specified as part of the complete defeathering process. Its useful configuration depends on the birds, the conveyor and the plucking equipment that follows.

01

Continuous Line Integration

Connects the bleeding and plucking stages without unloading birds from the overhead shackle conveyor.

02

Air-agitated Immersion

Water movement helps immerse the product and improves contact between heated water and the feather layer.

03

Configurable Scalding Path

Tank length and conveyor speed are selected together to provide the required residence time.

04

Steam-heated Configuration

Prepared for project-specific steam heating and temperature-control arrangements.

05

Accessible Tank Sections

Side access panels support inspection, cleaning and routine service of the tank area.

06

Coordinated Line Engineering

Inlet height, outlet position, conveyor pitch and downstream plucker interface are confirmed with the complete layout.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before you request a proposal.

These answers cover common selection questions. Contact us for a review based on your actual project conditions.

The effective length is calculated from the target line speed and required residence time. Bird type, average weight, skin-finish requirement and the following plucking process must also be reviewed.

There is no universal setting. Industry references distinguish soft, medium and hard scalding, but the final temperature and time must be validated for the actual birds, finished product and local food-safety program.

A waterfowl configuration may require different tank width, stronger agitation and a different residence time. Species, weight and feather condition must be confirmed before selection.

No. It is a planning range covering different configurations. The contractual output is confirmed only after the conveyor, scalding path, utilities and connected equipment are sized as one line.

Provide steam availability and pressure, water supply, drainage, electrical standard and compressed-air information where applicable. Exact consumption values are supplied with the approved proposal.

It may be possible after checking conveyor pitch, speed, elevation, direction, shackle geometry, available space and the inlet and outlet interfaces.
